"So... what’s the trade-off?" I asked. "You give up a widely accepted, profitable practice to do a new thing. There must be sacrifice. Do you give up productivity? Profitability? Perception in the eyes of your peers?"

"No," he replied. "You give up the former paradigm that measures those traits. You trade it in for a new one that measures them differently. That changes everything."

You look underground to feed what’s above ground. You look for less to mean more. You look for insight from outsiders. You look for patience when passion pleads for instant results.

"Ah," I nodded. Indeed, a trade up.
